A new fire station is officially open in Junortoun, giving local firefighters in the Bendigo region a modern base to continue their vital work protecting the community and saving lives.
Member for Bendigo East Jacinta Allan today joined members of the Junortoun Fire Brigade and local community to congratulate them on the official opening of the new facility. The new $2.5 million station, located at 25 Popes Road, is designed to meet the future needs of the brigade, with enough space and facilities to accomodate more volunteers and equipment.
Key features of the station include ample space to house all the brigade’s appliances, and two changing areas, each with multiple toilets and shower facilities, to cater for the brigade’s expanding volunteer base. In addition, the station features safety improvements including increased equipment storage and breathing apparatus cleaning facilities.
The new station is located across the road from the former station and one block from the McIvor Highway, about 9km east of central Bendigo.
Junortoun Fire Brigade was established in 1943 and attends around 40 callouts a year. It supports brigades in neighbouring response areas and others in the wider Eppalock Group of brigrades.
The brigade has 46 members, including 34 operational firefighters. The brigade had operated out of its former site for more than 30 years.
Junortoun firefighters were deployed throughout major fires, including the 2019-20 bushfires in Victoria and NSW and the 2009 Victorian bushfires. The new Junortoun Fire Station has been delivered by the Andrews Labor Government as part of its ongoing commitment to provide Victoria’s hardworking CFA volunteers the equipment and infrastructure they need to support their communities.
