FUNDING BOOST FOR BENDIGO EVENTS

Tuesday, 21 November 2017

Bendigo is set to host the illumin8 Festival and Uncorked Week thanks to a funding boost from the Andrews Labor Government.

Member for Bendigo East, Jacinta Allan and Member for Bendigo West, Maree Edwards announced today that Bendigo has secured both illumin8 and uncorked week through the Labor Government’s Regional Events Fund

Illumin8 will be held from the 18th – 20th May 2018 at the Great Stupa of Universal Compassion and is expected to attract up to 13,500 people.

Uncorked week will be held from the 12th – 21st October 2018 in the centre of Bendigo and is expected to attract up to 1,800 people.

The illumin8 festival heralds the arrival of the world’s largest Jade Buddha in Bendigo and highlights the region on the international tourism stage. Since March 2009 Jade Buddha has toured the world and in May 2018 Jade Buddha will come home to The Great Stupa of Universal Compassion in Bendigo.

Bendigo Uncorked Week will showcase the Bendigo wine region, locally-produced food, live music and the chance for patrons to step inside some of the city’s most historic gold-rush buildings.

The week would be bookended by existing events – Bendigo Heritage After Dark and Bendigo Heritage Uncorked. Bendigo Heritage Uncorked has been part of the city's spring calendar for more than 20 years. It's a wine and food event with a difference to end the week. It’s a walking feast of the Bendigo region. Patrons stroll between inter-city venues to discover Bendigo wines, local food and the historical buildings that make the city so recognisable.

Events like this mean serious business for Bendigo. They attract visitors, create jobs, and keep local businesses busy.

Our $20 million Regional Events Fund is helping rural and regional communities all over Victoria stage and secure events that bring visitors in their droves, support local communities and show off the best that regional Victoria has to offer.

Regional Victoria has something for everyone, and we want everyone to experience it for themselves.
