The Andrews Labor Government is helping Bendigo families access more local kindergarten services, through our unprecedented investment in early childhood services.

Member for Bendigo East, Jacinta Allan, today visited Assisi Kindergarten in Strathfieldsaye to open the new early learning facility, which includes a large modular indoor space and a large outdoor undercover area, and has been built using mainly green materials.

The $1.32 million Assisi Kindergarten is located at St Francis of the Fields Primary School, and will offer 132 places in its 4-year-old kinder program and 88 places in its 3-year-old program.

The Government contributed $650,000 towards building the new centre as part of a New Early Learning Facility Grant in 2015-16. The remaining $670,000 was provided by St Therese’s Parish.

It is part of the Government’s $70 million investment to build and upgrade hundreds of children’s centres and kindergartens across Victoria.

Research shows that children who have a stimulating, supportive and healthy start to life are more likely to do well later in life, while children who attend kinder score between 10 and 20 points higher on NAPLAN tests.

Bendigo families will soon benefit from the Government’s $202.1 million Education State Early Childhood Reform Plan, announced in this year’s Victorian Budget 2017/18.

This ground-breaking reform plan recognises the importance of providing families with strong support in early childhood, so kids are ready for kinder and ready for school.

It will mean local parents can access improved parenting support and Maternal and Child Health Services and higher quality and more inclusive kindergartens.

Infrastructure projects such as these ensure local children’s services have the space and flexibility they need to deliver 15 hours of kindergarten alongside a range of other vital early years programs.
