Students in Bendigo will benefit from the Andrews Labor Government’s investment in local STEM facilities.

Member for Bendigo East, Jacinta Allan, and Member for West Maree Edwards, today visited Bendigo Discovery, Science and Technology Centre to announce the $55,000 grant to complete upgrades at the centre which delivers science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) programs for under six year olds.

Today’s funding announcement will allow the Bendigo Discovery Centre to recarpet, replace and add to audio visual equipment as well as lighting and soundproofed spaces. The upgrades will assist early years educators in learning how to better equip young children with an interest in STEM.

Bringing this STEM program to under six year-olds reflects the Labor Government's commitment to Learning for Life by introducing young children to exciting educational opportunities, including a passion for STEM.

It also supports the Government’s STEM in the Education State Plan released in September 2016. The plan outlines a strong commitment to STEM education across the early childhood, school, training and the TAFE system and higher education sector.

Investment in facilities such as this centre as well as Tech Schools is all part of the Andrews Labor Government’s plan to boost performance in STEM subjects.

This includes achieving a 25 per cent increase in the number of year nine students reaching the highest level of achievement in maths and a 33 per cent increase in 15-year-olds reaching the highest levels in science.
