BENDIGO’S NEW HEALTH TRAINING CENTRE TAKES SHAPE

Friday, 18 August 2017

Bendigo TAFE’s brand new Health and Community Services Centre of Excellence is taking shape.

Member for Bendigo West Maree Edwards and Member for Bendigo East Jacinta Allan today toured the $17.7 million project, currently under construction at the McCrae Street, Bendigo City Campus.

The project, on track for opening early next year, will refurbish existing buildings to support specialist training in health and community services.

Work commenced in February, with the demolition of Building J on Chapel Street.

The Health and Community Services Centre of Excellence forms part of Bendigo TAFEs long-term plans for the revitalisation of the Bendigo City Campus.

Bendigo TAFE’s other significant capital works project in Bendigo is the Food and Fibre Centre of Excellence, at the Charleston Road campus.

A $7.8 million election commitment under the TAFE Rescue Fund, the new centre will provide vocational training and industry support across food production, fibre production, animals, plants and landscapes, environment and natural resource management, and other related applied sciences.

Through Skills First, the Labor Government is overhauling Victorias training and TAFE system, guaranteeing funding to secure the future of TAFE and making sure Victorians have the right skills for the jobs of today and tomorrow.

Skills First builds on the Governments investment in TAFE since 2014 which has included new buildings, reopening closed campuses, rolling out the latest cutting edge equipment and restoring quality to the system.
