Kidscan discover and enjoy the wonders of science at the upgraded Bendigo DiscoveryScience and Technology Centre’s auditorium thanks to a $220,000 boost from theAndrews Labor Government.

PremierDaniel Andrews today joined Member for Bendigo East Jacinta Allan and Memberfor Bendigo West Maree Edwards to tour the Centre, which helps engage kids inSTEM programs and learning.

BendigoDiscovery Centre has used part of this funding boost to increase its engagementwith families with young children and early childhood services. This includesemploying a specialist early childhood teacher to redevelop the space foryoungsters, and create educational programs for the community and earlychildhood services.

Aspart of the funding boost, $55,000 has been provided to upgrade the auditoriumto include new audio-visual equipment, lighting, insulation, paint, carpets andcurtains to enhance the space, and support the educational work of the Centre.

Establishedin 1995 as Australia’s first science and technology centre outside of a majormetropolitan area, the Bendigo Discovery Centre provides interactive exhibitsand tailored planetarium programs linked to the science curriculum and broadereducational outcomes to over 30,000 visitors per year.

Thecentre has partnered with La Trobe University and Bendigo TAFE to build theconfidence of future early childhood educators and teachers in incorporatingscience and technology in their teaching.

Pre-serviceteachers undertake projects that provide concrete experiences of STEMactivities and generate enthusiasm for using STEM content in early childhoodcentres and primary school classrooms.

TheLabor Government’s Education State is making sure all students are supported toget a great education, stay in school and learn the skills they need for thefuture.
