FAMILY FUN AND FREE FISHING COMING TOBENDIGO

The Andrews Labor Government is getting on withbringing even more fishing opportunities to the heart of Bendigo withVicFishKids announced for Sunday 7 October.

Member for Bendigo East Jacinta Allan and Member forBendigo West Maree Edwards joined Lee Rayner from Fishing Fever at KenningtonReservoir to announce the VicFishKids event. 

The VicFishKids event is funded by the Andrews LaborGovernment’s Target One Million which is investing a record $46 million toincrease participation to one million anglers by 2020.

The event is designed to give kids a taste of fishingand get them inspired to keep casting in the future.

Everything is provided on the day, so youngsters canlearn to cast, tie knots and understand what to do when they catch a fish.

Fishing personality Lee Rayner will attend the VicFishKidsevent in Bendigo to inspire seasoned anglers and complete novices with experttips and give them the ‘fishing edge’.

Fishcare will also be there to provide free fishingtuition and to help mums, dads and kids learn about responsible and sustainablefishing practices.

The Victorian Fisheries Authority will give away 200rod and reel outfits at the event to encourage beginners to stick with thehobby and try it again another time with family and friends.

Kennington Reservoir will be stocked with 500 rainbowtrout ahead of the VicFishKids event so there promises to be plenty ofexcitement and chances for children to get photos with their prized catches.

All bait and fishing gear is provided, so event goersjust need to bring sturdy footwear, weather appropriate clothing, a hat,sunscreen and a sense of adventure.
